Car accident lawyer in Italy: assistance from abroad

You have returned home, but the accident claim is still in Italy. Avv. Luca Valente examines accident documents and handles out-of-court claims, with correspondence in English or Italian and an agreed scope of work.

Start with the position your claim is in now

You may have only the accident paperwork, an open insurance file or an offer that you do not yet understand. Your first message is used to establish whether the practice can consider the matter. If it can, you will be told which documents are needed and the cost of any paid assessment before work starts. You do not need to assemble every medical record before making contact.

Where assistance may be needed
Before the claim

Understand the file

Identify the parties, available evidence, correspondence and questions that need examination.

During the claim

Handle the correspondence

Prepare and pursue the out-of-court request within the agreed engagement.

When an offer arrives

Examine what it covers

Review the proposed payment, supporting records and terms of settlement.

A claim reference identifies an insurance file; it does not establish that liability has been accepted or that every loss has been included. If you have already received an offer, mention it in your enquiry and keep both the offer letter and any proposed release.

For the issues to look for, the guide to reviewing a settlement offer explains why the breakdown and the wording of the agreement matter.

A direct relationship with your lawyer in Rome

Avv. Luca Valente practises individually and is the client’s direct professional contact throughout the engagement. He has been registered with the Ordine degli Avvocati di Roma since 2011. His practice includes reviewing accident evidence, handling insurer correspondence and examining settlement proposals. Correspondence is in English or Italian. Verify the Rome Bar register entry (Italian).

Where the matter permits, documents and correspondence can be handled remotely. Returning home does not, by itself, establish which assessments or other steps can take place remotely. Any need for medical expertise, translations or attendance must be considered in the circumstances of the case.

I have already contacted an insurer. Can I still enquire?

Yes. State which company or claims handler you contacted, the reference received and whether there has been a response or payment. Mention any existing professional appointment as well. The practice will first establish whether it can consider the matter; an enquiry does not transfer an existing engagement.

Agree the work before it starts

From enquiry to engagement
  1. First contactA short account of the matter

The accident, where you live, the current stage and any approaching deadline.

  2. Initial review arrangementsDocuments and any quoted assessment

The lawyer checks whether the practice can act, including any conflict of interest, then identifies the documents needed and quotes any paid review.

  3. Written engagementScope, fees and separate expenses

The work to be undertaken and its cost are agreed before that work begins.

Any paid assessment is quoted before work begins. The engagement identifies professional fees and separate expenses, such as medical reports or translations. Reimbursement by an insurer is not assumed. The guide to legal fees and separate expenses sets out the points to clarify.

Does an out-of-court engagement include a court case?

No. Any proposed court proceedings require a separate assessment and agreement. The initial scope should make clear which work is included and which later stages would need to be discussed.

The outcome and duration of a claim depend on the facts, evidence and response of the parties involved. An initial enquiry cannot establish a compensation figure or a settlement date.

Tell the practice where matters stand

Use the contact form for the first enquiry. A concise account is enough to begin:

  • The accidentDate and place in Italy, and whether you were a driver, passenger, pedestrian or cyclist.
  • Your current positionCountry of residence, whether there are injuries and whether treatment continues.
  • The claim so farAny insurer’s response, offer, payment or existing professional appointment.
  • Anything time-sensitiveAn approaching deadline or a document you have been asked to sign.

Describe the documents you hold; wait for instructions before sending medical records or other sensitive documents. You can find the practice’s professional details and privacy information on the contact page.

Enquire about an accident ↗

An enquiry does not create a professional engagement or mean that a deadline has been accepted. The practice must confirm whether it can act and the scope of any appointment.
